Connect Nova Creative to ChatGPT or Codex

ChatGPT connection preview

Nova Creative creates images and short videos from briefs or selected references in ChatGPT and saves their editable workflows in your Nova account. The public plugin listing is pending approval; the MCP connection page shows the current status.

For developer testing, add https://app.creative.novastorm.ai/mcp as an MCP connection using OAuth in ChatGPT developer mode. Choose the Nova account explicitly. Read/edit rights and generation rights are separate. A deployment must enable the updated server and OAuth client before these tools can be tested.

  1. Ask for three visual directions, a short product video, or a revision to a saved project.
  2. Select any reference attachment you want Nova to import. Imported images/videos are validated, limited to 64 MB and saved in your account; their temporary ChatGPT download URLs are not put in the workflow.
  3. Review the saved workflow's configuration and estimated usage in the card. Select Confirm and generate to authorize that version.
  4. Follow progress and download the generated files in ChatGPT. Open the same saved Nova project when feedback arrives.

Managed generation is the default. Existing configured personal credentials can be selected where supported; BYOK provider usage is billed separately. Your existing Nova account access applies. Runs continue when the chat closes. Download links last fifteen minutes and can be refreshed without generating again.

Revoking the connection in Nova invalidates its OAuth access. Existing read/write connections need new consent before they can generate. Whole-workflow deletion, GPU provisioning, avatars and Meta campaign publication are outside this plugin.

Codex personal token setup

You need a Nova Creative account and Codex installed.

1. Create a token

  1. Sign in to Nova Creative.
  2. Open Settings → Account → MCP access tokens.
  3. Select Generate token.
  4. Copy the token. It starts with nova_mcp_ and is shown only once.

2. Add Nova Creative to Codex

In the same Settings section, find Codex config and select Copy.

Open the Codex configuration file for your system.

macOS

mkdir -p ~/.codex
touch ~/.codex/config.toml
open -e ~/.codex/config.toml

Linux

mkdir -p ~/.codex
nano ~/.codex/config.toml

Save in Nano with Ctrl+O, press Enter, then exit with Ctrl+X.

Windows PowerShell

New-Item -ItemType Directory -Force "$HOME\.codex" | Out-Null
notepad "$HOME\.codex\config.toml"

If Notepad asks to create the file, select Yes.

Paste the copied block into the file and save it. It looks like this:

[mcp_servers.nova_creative]
url = "https://app.creative.novastorm.ai/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "NOVA_CREATIVE_MCP_TOKEN"

Use the URL shown in your Settings. Do not replace it manually.

3. Start Codex with the token

Run the commands for your system. Replace paste-your-token-here with the token from step 1.

macOS

export NOVA_CREATIVE_MCP_TOKEN='paste-your-token-here'
codex

Linux

export NOVA_CREATIVE_MCP_TOKEN='paste-your-token-here'
codex

Windows PowerShell

$env:NOVA_CREATIVE_MCP_TOKEN='paste-your-token-here'
codex

Start Codex from this same terminal window. The token variable lasts until you close the terminal.

4. Check the connection

In Codex, type:

/mcp

nova_creative should appear as connected. You can now ask Codex to list, open, create, rename, or edit your Nova Creative workflows. Personal MCP tokens cannot start generation; review and run in Nova, or use the ChatGPT confirmation card with generation permission.

If it does not work

  • 401 error: generate a new token or check that the token has not expired.
  • Nova Creative is missing: check the configuration file from step 2 and restart Codex.
  • You lost the token: return to Settings, revoke it, and generate another one.

Never paste the token into config.toml, Git, or chat. Keep it only in the environment variable.
